BUCKS HARBOR – Millie Alley Urquhart, 90, passed away peacefully at her home Nov. 2, 2013. She was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Jonesport, to the late Ashton and Elizabeth Alley.
She was raised in Jonesport where she met her late husband of 66 years, Millard Urquhart. Millie and Millard moved to Bucks Harbor in 1959 where they resided for their remaining years. Millie was a strong, compassionate, and thoughtful woman who loved her family, friends and God above all else. Millie’s home, much like her mothers, was always open to her family and friends or anyone who needed a place to rest and a home cooked meal. It didn’t matter if you knew Millie for the majority of your life or if you just met her, you instantly knew she was a special woman and from that point on she had a place in your heart. She will be so dearly missed by her family, friends, and community. She always had an amazing work ethic. In her early years, she worked at a sardine factory packing sardines. She supported her husband Millard in every way including co-owning several seafood business including Bucks Harbor Lobster Company, Bucks Harbor Seafood, and Roamer Corporation. Millie was an auxiliary to the Gideons, taught Sunday School, and attended Bucks Harbor Baptist Church.
Millie is survived by her son, Dana L. Urquhart and wife, Carolyn, of Jonesboro; daughter, Darlene U. Wood and husband, Cecil, of Machiasport; grandson, Charles Ashton Urquhart and wife, Tracy, of Hallowell; grandson, Christopher Harris Urquhart and wife, Morgan, of Bangor; grandaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Sprague and husband, Eric, of Machiasport; grandaughter, Natalie Marie Boldeia and husband, Mark, of Merrimack, N.H.; grandson, Elijah Lee Wood of Machiasport; Troy Shurn of Machiasport; great-grandson, Dexter Douglas Urquhart of Bangor; sister, Ernestine “Tina” McKinnon of Waterville; and special nephews, Gary and Dennis McKinnon and families, Alfred Polk and George Greenlaw, who grew up with her like brothers. In addition to her parents, Ashton and Elizabeth Alley, she was predeceased by her husband, Millard Urquhart; and her brother-in-law, Alan McKinnon.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. At 3 p.m. following the graveside service a brief communal gathering will be held at Bucks Harbor Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bucks Harbor Baptist Church, 33 Ridge Road, Machiasport, ME 04655.
