GUILFORD – Robert O. Littlefield, 82, died Nov. 2, 2013, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Guilford, the son of Orchard and Grace (Davis) Littlefield.
He enjoyed playing basketball in high school and after graduating from the last class of “Guilford High School” in 1949, he even played for several years with semi-pro leagues. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Along with his wife, Pat, he enjoyed traveling and covered most of the continental United States, as well as Alaska, Hawaii, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Canada. But, he always enjoyed coming back to his farm. Bob was an avid sports fan, and even watched the entire World Series over the past two weeks. He worked at a number of jobs in the local area over the years, including farmer, truck driver, and the Guilford Woolen Mill. Bob was a member of the Guilford Fire Department for 51 years, and was a long time member of the South Sangerville Grange and the Guilford Kiwanis Club. He was a founding member of the Guilford Development Corp., who were responsible for developing the Senior Citizen housing at “Riverbend.” For many years Bob played Santa Claus for the local school children. He also would have been known by many people for his part in the Public Opinion forum on MPBN. He served as selectman for the Town of Guilford and later was hired as Town Manager in 1971, retiring in 2002.
