BREWER – Leonild “Lee” E. Murphy Sr., 74, passed away peacefully Nov. 3, 2013, after a long illness. He was born July 6, 1939, in Wallagrass, the son of George and Elsie (Ayotte) Murphy.
Lee enjoyed many sports, from water-skiing and baseball in his youth, to stock car racing, horseback riding, and in his later years, billiards with his friends at the Eagle’s Club. He retired from Greyhound with “The Million Mile” Safe Driver Award, having driven for 25 years without an accident. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Brewer.
He is survived by his mother, Elsie Murphy of Bangor; his sister, Diana Perry and her husband, John, of Hartland; daughter, Madeline Roberts and her husband, Mark, of Orrington; son, Lee Murphy Jr. of Orrington; daughter, Liana Murphy of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren, Sarah Roberts, Joshua Roberts, Sean Murphy, Nicole Murphy, Jennifer York, and Jessica Butts; aunt, Valerie Hall; special friend, Myna Henderson; lifelong friend, Ralph Mishou; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his dad, George Murphy; children, Christine and Matthew Murphy; and their mom, Madeline Murphy; and brother, Richard Murphy.
A graveside service for Lee will be held noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. Donations in Lee’s honor may be made to Last Stop Horse Rescue, 938 Tar Ridge Road, Prentiss, ME 04487. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley, 69 State St., Brewer.
