BANGOR – Ruth Mary Mooney, 88, wife of the late Joseph A. Mooney, died Nov. 3, 2013 at a local healthcare center following a long illness. She was born Aug. 19, 1925 in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of Otto James and Alice Elizabeth (Cushing) Kirkland.
Ruth was a graduate of Bangor High School. As a young women, she worked at the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. and, in later in life, was employed at the Libby’s Card and Gift Shop in Bangor and greatly enjoyed her friendships with the Holly Club. Ruth was an avid swimmer at the YWCA for years. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary’s School Library for many years. Ruth was a lifelong active communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are three children: Jane (Mooney) Dancosse of Stewartsville, N.J., Joseph A. Mooney Jr. of Bangor and Michael Mooney and his wife, Amy-Jane, of Hampden; two grandchildren, Chelsea Mooney and Kayla Mooney; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by three siblings, Charles Kirkland, James Kirkland and Alice (Kirkland) McCarthy.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 8, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
