BREWER and GREEN LAKE – Pheobe J. Jenkins, 92, of Brewer and Green Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at home with her children at her side. She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Bangor, the daughter of William L. and Emma H. Freese.
She grew up in LaGrange where she attended school through grade eight. She graduated from Newton (MA) High School, and Beauty School in Bangor. Shortly after their marriage in June 1940, Pheobe and Ray moved to Green Lake where they lived and operated Jenkins Beach until 1978. She was an active member of the UAW Guild of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor and the Dedham Community Club.
Pheobe was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; son, David; stepson, Robert; and brothers, William and John Freese. She is survived by her son, Raymond “Joe” Jenkins of Green Lake and partner, Malen Hsu, of Ellsworth; daughter, Carole O’Donnell of Brewer; granddaughters, Julie Jenkins of Bangor and Erin O’Donnell of Arlington, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7, at the Unitarian Universalist Society, 120 Park St., Bangor. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Good Shepherd Food Bank, P.O. Box 1807, Auburn, ME 04201-1807, or a charity of your choice.
