ENFIELD – Elaine Higgins, 85, died peacefully Nov. 29, 2013, at her home. She was born April 10, 1928, in Bangor, the daughter of Albert and Freda (Wade) Blackman.
She attended Brewer schools. On Dec. 24, 1948, she married Ralph Higgins Sr., and they resided in Brewer. She worked for many years at Eastern Fine Paper Co. in Brewer. She had many loves which included bowling and knitting, but her greatest enjoyment was her family and spending time with them.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph “Lefty” of 64 years; brother, Bob Blackman; sister, Barbara Davis; special sister-in-law, Georgia Thurlow; four children, Brenda Rose and her husband, Mike, of Tennessee, Bonnie Oxley and her husband, Dave, of Etna, Ralph Higgins Jr., and his wife, Katherine, of East Millinocket, and Freda Ryan and her husband, Phil, of West Enfield; seven grandchildren, Candace and husband, Bob Fearer, of Arizona, Paul Smith Jr. and Jessica Adams of Brewer, Andrew Rose of Tennessee, Kristy Higgins and Ian of Portland, Phil Ryan Jr. and his wife, Christina, of West Enfield, Angela Smith and John Slicker of Texas, Bridget Ryan and Tim Hunt of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Gracie Ryan-Hunt, Connor Ryan, Lillian and Liam Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held following at her daughter’s house, 734 Dodlin Road, West Enfield.
