BANGOR – Sontrud “Sonny” Messervey, 71, died peacefully in the arms of family on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, due to complications from a fall. She was born Nov. 3, 1942, in Karlsruhe, Germany, daughter of Alfred and Hedwig Palm.
She married Kenneth Messervey, in 1962, and had 33 wonderful years of marriage and two loving sons. Sonny provided in-home care and helped several aging people through the latter part of their lives. Each of them became adopted mothers and she an adopted daughter.
She is survived by two sons, Allen Messervey and his wife, Jennifer Irish Messervey, of Hermon, and Thomas Messervey and his wife, Sara, of Italy; a special grandson, Connor Messervey of Hermon; one brother, Wolfgang Palm and his wife, Marlena, of Germany; and extended family and friends both here and in Germany. Sonny was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Kenneth, who passed away Nov. 22, 1996.
Relatives and friend are invited to call 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Interment will be noon Monday, Dec. 9, at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the service.
