WATERVILLE, Maine — An 18-year-old man is facing charges after police say he smashed another man’s windshield with a baseball bat.
Melvin Hubbard, 18, is accused of aggravated assault among other minor charges, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Monday.
The series of events leading to Hubbard’s arrest began around 9;45 p.m. Friday when officers were called to a fight on Kimball Street, Rumsey said.
Upon arriving, police questioned the victim, who had major facial injuries including a piece of glass in his eye, and calmed down a number of others in the area who were angry, Rumsey said.
The victim had been sitting inside his vehicle when Hubbard came out of a residence and attacked him by smashing the windshield, the deputy chief said.
Hubbard had left the scene by the time police had arrived, but he was tracked down and arrested shortly after midnight Sunday, Rumsey said.
In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Hubbard was charged with violating conditions of release, Rumsey said.
He is being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $6,500 cash bail and awaits a Jan. 14, 2014, court appearance.
