WINDHAM – Frances “Fannie” E. Lougee, 91, died Dec. 11, 2013, in Windham, with her family by her side. She was born June 7, 1922, in Mobile, Ala., the daughter of John H. and Flora S. (Seymour) Eley.
Frances was raised in Montgomery, Ala., and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, then attended business school. She worked for the Southern Bell Telephone Co., in the traffic and plant department. In January of 1945, she married George E. Lougee of Bangor. Together they moved to Brewer following World War II. She was active in the Brewer PTA and the Girl Scouts, having been a Brownie leader. She was also a member of Brewer Methodist Church and the Patawa Club, having served as Secretary, and the Air National Guard Officers’ Wives Club. She moved to the Portland area in 1964 where she worked as assistant clerk in the Maine District Court. Mrs. Lougee and her husband settled in Windham in 1973.
Frances is survived by her son, George “Chip” E. Lougee Jr.; two daughters, Susan A. Lougee-Gagnon and husband, Art Gagnon, and Karen I. Lougee and husband Gerry Campbell; and former daughter-in-law, Debra Lougee, all of Windham; seven grandchildren, Christina Lougee and fiancé, Nick Farynaz, of Portland, Matthew Lougee of Windham, Michael Harriman and fiancée, Kristal Karatsanos, of Clearwater, Fla., Kari-Ann Poirier and husband, Chris, of Standish, Brett Jacobs and wife, Wendy, of Windham, Wesley Jacobs and wife, Abby, of Windham, and Kate Jacobs of Bristol, England; four great-grandchildren, Lane and Nicole Poirier of Standish, and Samantha and Tyler Jacobs of Windham. In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband, George Sr. in 1996; and her sister, Mildred Breedlove.
Frances’ family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Schuler and the staff of Ledgewood Manor for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave to Frances.
Visiting hours will be held 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, where an 11 a.m. service will be held the same day. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Donations in Frances’ honor may be made to Ledgewood Manor, Activities Fund, 200 Tandberg Trail, Windham, ME 04062.
