WHITING – George Hazen Stevens, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at his home in Whiting. George was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Machias, son of the late Glenn and Dorothy (Crosby) Stevens.
After graduating from Dennysville High School, class of 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country during the Korean War. George returned home and worked at the Woolen Mill in Eastport until beginning his career with DiCenzos, where he worked for over 30 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and canoeing the Dennysville River.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Violet (Smith) Stevens; two infant children, Jerry Wayne and RaeAnn; a brother, James Stevens; and two sisters, Jane Seeley and Mary Stevens. Surviving are four children, George “Mike” Stevens and wife, Patty, of Pembroke, Mary Jones and husband, Scott, of Perry, Terry Stevens and wife, Kelly, of Edmunds, and Dennis Stevens and companion, Joan, of Pembroke; his companion, Lillian McLaughlin of Whiting; seven grandchildren, Gerry, Jillian, Bryan, Ryan, Derek, Amy, and Cassidy; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Cox and husband, Dana, of Edmunds, and Anna Blackwood of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Kenny Seeley of Baileyville; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held noon until the service held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. Burial will take place at Dennysville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Dennysville/Edmunds Congregational Church, P.O. Box 65, Dennysville, ME 04628.
