NEWBURGH – Marie W. Roy, 91, wife of the late Leo James Roy passed away Jan. 3, 2014. Marie was born April 13, 1922, to Patrick and Emilia Cyr.
Marie dedicated her life to her family, which extended far beyond her immediate relatives. She was loved and admired by many as a mother, friend, and Memere. She was known for opening her home and loving arms to more than 26 foster children, and a boarding home for adult women with special needs. Marie celebrated life with large family gatherings and cherishing her grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her sons, Ronald Roy and wife, Carmen, of Morrill, and Robert Roy of Newburgh; her daughters, Patsy Sheehan of Millbury, Mass., and Sandra Ward and husband, Donald, of Newburgh; two very dedicated foster sons, Leonard Leet and family of Massachusetts, and Gilman Fournier and family of Connecticut; her son-in-law, Robert Sheehan of Worcester, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Marcia Roy of Phoenix; her brother, Adrian Cyr of Van Buren; her sister, Flora Laferriere of Windsor Locks, Conn.; her grandchildren, Diane Burns, Karen Dantona, Ronald Roy Jr., Monique Whitcomb, Michelle Bruckner, Elizabeth Mueller, Jillian Hall, and Mariah Ward; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; as well as many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Marie was predeceased by her son, James Roy; three brothers, Gilbert Cyr, Doris Cyr, and Clifford Cyr; one sister, Patricia Picard; and a special grandson, Matthew Ward.
The family thanks Kindred Nursing-Westgate, Assisted Living Unit for the excellent love and care she received during her stay. A special thank you to those who were able to share time and love with her up until her time of passing.
Family and friends are invited to visit 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Funeral services will be private in the spring.
