MACHIAS – George H. “Mac” MacFadyen Jr., 83, passed away Dec. 29, 2013, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness . He was born March 18, 1930, in Machias, the son of the late George MacFadyen Sr. and Dorothy Morse.
Following high school he played baseball for the Bruins. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a bookkeeper for Percy Wood, and for many years as a clam digger and worked in commercial fishing building and working on weirs. He loved playing and watching sports, especially golf, and his grandchildren s sporting events.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Clayton Morse. He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Linda Lund of Machias; two stepdaughters, Karin Nicely of Jonesboro, and Krista Lund of Portland; grandchildren, Corey Lund, Timothy Nicely and family, and Breanna Nicely, all of Machiasport; a special niece, Laurie Cobb; and nephew, Tyler Cobb both of Texas; special friend, Joseph Nicely; and many, many cousins.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Kay Parker Building, Hadley Lake Road, Machias. A reception will immediately follow .In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Machias High School Athletic Boosters, 1 Bulldog Lane, Machias, ME 04654.
