MARS HILL, Maine — A 22-year-old Mars Hill man has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary at an apartment in Mars Hill on Saturday.

Deputies responded just after 1:30 p.m. when a caller reported that several bottles of prescription medications, clothing and jewelry had been stolen earlier that day from an apartment at 77 Main St., Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department said on Monday.

Crandall said that during the investigation deputies identified Renaldo Jones, 22, as a suspect. He was located at Scovil Apartments a short time later and was taken into custody and charged with burglary, stealing drugs, theft and violation of conditions of release.

Jones also was charged with assaulting a woman in Mars Hill shortly before encountering the deputies, Crandall said. She was not seriously injured.

Jones was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, where he remained Monday.

Crandall said that deputies recovered most of the medication, all of the clothing, and all of the jewelry with the assistance of Maxx, the department’s police dog.

Jones is scheduled to make an initial appearance on April 22 in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou.
