PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man will spend 10 months in jail for his role in conspiring to produce and transfer false Permanent resident and Social Security cards.
Roman Garcia-Lopez, also known as Romeo Bartalon, 57, was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Bartalon pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 25.
According to court documents, Bartalon sold the false cards to individuals in the Portland area who were living in the U.S. illegally.
The consumers would provide Bartalon information and he would take a picture with his phone and forward the information to another individual who created the documents, according to the attorney’s office.
Bartalon was apparently ordered removed from the U.S. in 1997 but remained in the country. After he completes his sentence, he will face deportation.
