EAST MILLINOCKET – John Curley went home to the Lord Feb. 3, 2014, to join his beloved wife. He died at Millinocket Regional Hospital surrounded by his girls. He was born March 6, 1930, in East Millinocket, the son of Camilla (Trainor) and John Joseph Curley.
John was a graduate of Schenck High School. He served two years in the U.S. Air Force and worked 46 years at Great Northern Paper Company, primarily as a Millwright, before retiring in 1994. As a member of Carpenters & Joiners Union Local 1612, he was a passionate voice for union causes, serving many years as Union President and a member of the Negotiating Team. John was a lifelong communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. In earlier years, he was a member of Feeney-Groves Post 13 American Legion and was a volunteer fire fighter for the Town of East Millinocket. In essence, John was a quiet and unassuming man. He was quick witted and not one to complain. He enjoyed reading, gardening and was often seen taking many rides around town. Papa Curley also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events.
John was predeceased by Annie, his wife of 39 years; as well as his brother, Desmond. He is survived by his four daughters, Mary Alice Cullen and husband, Steve, Carolyn Bouchard and husband, Steve, all of Millinocket, Joanne White and husband, Tom, of Belmont, N.H., and Teresa Beaudoin and husband, David, of Farmingdale. Papa Curley will be missed by his grandchildren, Adam, Scott and Ryan Bouchard, Nicholas and Craig Cullen, Emily and Julia White, and Chloe and Carly Beaudoin. John is also survived by his sisters, Jean Curley, Anna Herbert, and Noreen Smedy; sister-in-law, Iris Curley; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by a special sister-in-law, Deanna Shepperd.
John also leaves an extended family at Sweet Seniors Guest House and his daughters will always be grateful for the love and care he received while there.
Those we love don’t go away,
they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
