ARUNDEL, Maine — A Kennebunk woman was transported to a local hospital Monday morning after her vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 1, police said.
Shirley Sargent, 67, struck the pole at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The impact caused the pole to snap in half and broken wires to be strewn across the road, King said. Sargent’s OnStar device in the vehicle alerted police and rescue workers to the accident.
Despite wires also being dangled across the top of Sargent’s vehicle, she only complained of hip pain and was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
The falling wires also damaged a Ford Focus driven by Shirley Danforth, 56, of Kennebunk, who was not injured.
Route 1 was blocked off until 4:15 p.m. while the scene was cleaned up.
