LUBEC – Shirley Marie (Avery) Bennett, 78 passed away on Feb. 15,2014, at Orono Commons in Orono. Shirley was born May 28,1935 in North Lubec, the daughter of Bill and Louise (Miller) Avery.
She graduated from Lubec High School and continued her education at North Shore Baby Hospital in MA. Shirley became an LPN and worked in the nursing field for many years. She dedicated her life to the care of others with an incredibly kind heart and a selfless spirit.
In addition to her parents, her passing was predeceased by a son Terry Williams and granddaughter Jennifer Williams. Shirley is survived by two brothers: David Avery and wife Margaret of Auburn, Edward Avery and wife Ann of Alabama. Her children: son Ronald Williams and wife Sheila of SC, son Charles Williams and wife Pricilla of Hope, daughter Tina Searles and husband Gary of Campobello, daughter Florence Simmonds and husband Brighton of Bangor. She had 11 grandchildren: Jason, Daniel, Aaron, Erica, Tyler, Dustin, Destinee, Douglas, Matthew, Brian and Tyler. Several great-grandchildren nieces and nephews.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff at Orono Commons for the loving care our mother received while there. A graveside service is planned for the spring.
