SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A water main break will congest traffic along Broadway until at least 6 p.m.Tuesday.

The break occurred on a 12-inch main in the area of Broadway near Wescott Road, according to a Portland Water District statement. Workers subsequently located the break in a service line to a single customer.

Crews are expected to work to rectify the break throughout the evening, the statement said. The cause of the break is unknown.

Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Regular traffic patterns are expected to be restored by 6 p.m., according to a second release.
