WINTHROP, Maine — A lone man held up a Winthrop convenience store at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Police were sent to the Circle K convenience store on Maine Street at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Winthrop Police Chief Joseph Young.

The robber displayed a handgun and demanded cash upon walking into the store and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, the chief said.

The robber is a white male in his early 20s standing between 5-foot-7 and 6 feet tall, Young said. He has brown eyes, was wearing a white mask, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with “Support the Twins on the back,” bright green pajama bottoms and white sneakers.

Winthrop police and a state police canine unit searched the area for evidence but the suspect could not be found.

Anyone with information on the case should contact Winthrop police at 377-7226.
