The New England Patriots have been in talks with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork about restructuring his contract, according to ESPNBoston.com.
Wilfork has one year and $7.5 million left on his deal but counts as an $11.6 million hit against the salary cap for the year. The Patriots want to reduce that figure.
The team is reportedly trying to get Wilfork to either accept a pay cut or sign an extension that spreads some of that $11.6 million into future years.
Wilfork, 32, only played four games last season because of a torn Achilles tendon and finished with nine tackles.
It is also possible the Patriots could release Wilfork if he refuses to restructure his deal.
