NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — A local man is behind bars Monday after he was arrested Friday on a sexual assault charge, police said.

Cameron Starkey, 21, is facing a Class A charge of gross sexual assault after he allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl, according to Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Police had received a report of a sexual assault in Hartland on March 5, Lancaster said, and the complaint said the 13-year-old victim was assaulted by an older male.

Investigation revealed that Starkey had been visiting a Hartland residence and assaulted the female, and police said Starkey confessed to his crime in an interview.

Starkey was arrested on Friday and brought to county lockup, where bail was set at $25,000.
