GRAY, Maine — April showers have officially arrived, along with melting snow and potential for flooding.
With steady rain expected to fall statewide throughout the day Tuesday, the National Weather Service has issued flood watches for much of the state.
The flood watches were expected to be in effect through late Tuesday, according to the weather service.
Up to an inch of rain is expected in many spots, and the combination of warm temperatures, rain and ice jams all create potential for flooding.
The watches are in effect for Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Waldo, Lincoln, Knox, Sagadahoc, Penobscot, Hancock and Washington counties.
The heavy rain is expected to taper off later in the day.
