SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A local man whom Skowhegan police have dealt with before was arrested early Wednesday after a woman woke up with him in her home.

Douglas Dewalt, 46, has multiple criminal trespass charges on his record dating back to 2009, according to Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais.

Police were called to a residence shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday when it was reported Dewalt had gained entry to a woman’s house through an unlocked door, Blais said.

The chief said the door’s creak aroused the woman, and when she spotted Dewalt, he fled and she called 911.

Police were able to track down Dewalt and arrest him and charge him with aggravated criminal trespass, Blais said.

Dewalt was brought to Somerset County Jail, where he remained Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported, Blais said.
