MATTAWAMKEAG, Maine — The Mattawamkeag River remained above flood levels on Monday, and the National Weather Service is keeping the public alert.

A flood warning for the river in northern Penobscot County remained in effect on Monday afternoon “until further notice,” according to a statement from the weather service.

The flood warning has been in effect since Friday.

The river’s flood stage is listed at 13.5 feet, and as of 11 a.m. Monday, the river’s current stage was 15.3 feet.

The river was expected to fall to levels as low as 15.1 feet by the end of the day Monday.
