SURRY, Maine — A longtime deputy sheriff in Hancock County has been recognized by a local grange hall with a community service award.
Scott Kane of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was presented with the honor on April 15 by the Arbutus Grange in Surry. Kane’s service over many years as a deputy sheriff, DARE officer, and baseball coach at George Stevens Academy were cited in bestowing the award.
“Your dedication and personal involvement are gratefully and sincerely acknowledged,” the citation reads.
It’s the second award Kane has received in 2014. In January, Kane and retired Maine state Trooper Christine Buchanan were presented with the Maine Sheriffs Association’s 2013 Presidential Award for their roles in founding Camp Postcard, a weeklong summer camp operated by law enforcement officials for Maine fifth and sixth grade school students.
