ORONO, Maine — A woman and 2-year-old boy who were trapped in an SUV when a tree branch came crashing down are currently in fair condition at a Portland hospital, officials said.
Isis Bell-Smith, 39, and her 2-year old son, Felix Bell-Smith Laracy, were originally brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor following Sunday’s accident, according to Orono Police Chief Josh Ewing, before being transferred to Portland’s Maine Medical Center.
A Maine Medical Center spokeswoman said Monday morning that mother and son are in fair condition.
Bell-Smith and her child became trapped when a large tree branch fell onto their Jeep on Main Street around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Bell-Smith’s husband, Ryan Laracy, 30, of Orono, was able to get out of the mangled vehicle but Bell-Smith and the little boy could not, according to Ewing.
The accident closed Main Street until about 7:30 p.m., and Orono firefighters were able to successfully extricate mother and son from the destroyed Jeep, Ewing said.
