HANCOCK, Maine — State police responded to a crash on Route 1 in Hancock just after 4 a.m. on Thursday, according to Trooper Bryan Creamer.

A pickup truck carrying three people drifted across the road into a ditch, Creamer said. The truck sideswiped a telephone pole, which broke, then hit a tree.

The three people in the vehicle were taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth with minor injuries, Creamer said.

Though two people were able get out of the vehicle easily, a third had to be extricated, Creamer said.

Creamer said it appeared that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. No one in the car had been wearing seat belts.
