LINCOLN, Maine — A Lincoln man was issued a summons on Saturday after he accidentally drove his pickup truck into the side of a convenience store on West Broadway and then left the scene, police said Monday.
Ollie Faulkner, 51, of Lincoln was summoned Saturday afternoon for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, said Dan Summers, Lincoln’s public safety director.
Officer Tony Redmond was called to the Irving Mainway convenience store and gas station on West Broadway at 3:04 p.m. on Friday for a reported hit-and-run. When he arrived, he saw that an inside wall to the store was “knocked in a bit,” Summers said.
Witnesses, who said they observed a Ford F-150 pickup truck leaving the scene, shared its license plate number with Redmond. He traced the plate to Faulkner, who met Redmond the next day and “admitted that he had hit the building,” Summers said.
“He told the officer that when he pushed on the brake pedal, he hit the accelerator at the same time,” Summers said. “He told the officer that he didn’t think he hit the building.”
Police have yet to receive from Irving a cost estimate on the damage, Summers said. Store workers said that Irving policy prohibits them from releasing statements to the media.
Faulkner was released on a promise to appear in Lincoln District Court on Sept. 2, Summers said.
