BANGOR, Maine — Fellow law enforcement personnel from the region will give a final salute to former Bangor police chief Don Winslow on Thursday afternoon when they direct traffic for his funeral procession, which will drive through an area of downtown.
Winslow died July 10 of lung cancer at the age of 57.
Winslow’s funeral Mass is scheduled at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, located at 207 York St. and will be followed by his burial at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
After leaving the church, the funeral procession will take a right onto Broadway, left at Cumberland Street and a right at the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building on Harlow Street. The cemetery is just over a mile away on Ohio Street.
“Traffic will be stopped at each intersection for the procession,” Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said.
The intersections will be manned by the Brewer Police Department, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police, Cotton said.
Bangor officers and members of the Old Town Fire Department, for which Winslow worked, are leading the escort of his urn to the cemetery, according to James Fernald, funeral director for Brookings-Smith Funeral Home in Bangor.
A remembrance reception will follow at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
