CORINNA, Maine — A local man was killed Wednesday afternoon when a vehicle struck the lawn tractor he was riding, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Dana Doherty, 79, was driving his John Deere lawn tractor on the right side of Corinna Center Road when it was struck from behind by a Ford Explorer driven by Mark Franzose, 34, of Garland, according to Sgt. William Sheehan of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheehan said Doherty was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by state police, Dexter police, the Corinna Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance, Sheehan said.

The incident remains under investigation and it’s not clear whether charges will be filed in connection with the crash, Sheehan said.
