WISCASSET, Maine — The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen appointed a new town manager Wednesday.
Marian Anderson, of Boothbay, has accepted a three-year contract with the town. Anderson will replace interim Town Manager Don Gerrish, who has served in that position since the resignation of Laurie Smith this past February.
Anderson will assume her duties in Wiscasset beginning Aug. 18, with a starting annual salary of $78,000.
After being appointed, Anderson greeted townspeople who attended Wednesday’s meeting.
“I want to thank the town for giving me the opportunity. Wiscasset is a wonderful community. I look forward to at least three good years of working with you,” she said.
Anderson has served as the town manager of Richmond since 2009. According to a news release issued by the town, she has also served as an assessor and code enforcement officer in Richmond, Boothbay, Waterville, Gardiner, and Bar Harbor. She is a certified Maine assessor, certified code enforcement officer, and certified plumbing inspector.
She serves on the boards of the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust, the Boothbay Region Community Resource Board, and the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
Anderson is a graduate of the Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service and Municipal Leadership.
Gerrish applauded the hire. “The selectmen made a great decision in their choice to hire Marian,” Gerrish said.
Although she will not officially begin working in Wiscasset until the middle of next month, Gerrish said he will be sending her email and information to keep her updated on what is going on in town, as part of the transition process.
“Then I can take the rest of the summer off,” Gerrish said with a chuckle.
