WINSLOW, Maine — A Skowhegan man is facing multiple charges after a lengthy investigation regarding copper thefts in central Maine.
Michael Grant was charged Monday with aggravated criminal mischief and felony theft in connection with copper thefts in Winslow, Waterville, Augusta, Farmingdale and Windsor, according to Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary.
Grant is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail, as O’Leary said he was arrested by Oakland police for a probation violation not related to the copper thefts during the investigation.
Winslow and Waterville police detectives were able to solve the copper thefts, which had been going on for several weeks and resulted in thousands of dollars in damage, O’Leary said.
“Several other law enforcement agencies assisted Winslow and Waterville in solving this crime spree,” said O’Leary. “It is anticipated that those agencies [Augusta police, Maine State Police and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office] will be filing charges against Mr. Grant in the future.”
Bail has not been set for Grant.
