BANGOR, Maine — Some FairPoint Communications customers may have lost their Internet service because of a problem that occurred on Sunday afternoon, according to a FairPoint spokesman.

The problem affected customers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and some may still be experiencing problems as a result, the spokesman said Wednesday.

FairPoint Communications is directing those customers to call 800-240-5019. They may need to reauthenticate their systems, a process that help staff can walk them through, company spokesman Jeffrey Nevins said.

Nevins also said that “because the problem was intermittent, we are not able to provide a number of customers who may have been impacted” and that there are “currently no widespread network issues.”
