NEW SWEDEN, Maine — A Fort Kent man escaped major injury Wednesday when his vehicle left Route 161 and went into the woods, police said.

Ray Jalbert, 81, was traveling north at the time of the accident, according to Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Jalbert’s vehicle went down an embankment at 3:42 p.m., Crandall said.

Jalbert suffered minor cuts and was treated at the scene by Caribou Ambulance. His vehicle was a total loss, Crandall said.

The accident remains under investigation.
