CARMEL, Maine — A Brewer man was injured late Wednesday night when his pickup truck left the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Carmel and went into the woods, police said.

The truck went so deep into the tree line that the mangled vehicle and the 38-year-old driver, who was ejected, weren’t discovered until 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to State Trooper Forrest Simpson.

Simpson said the accident occurred shortly before midnight. The truck was in deep to a point where only the rear of the vehicle could have been seen from the side of the road, he said.

The driver’s name was not available. The accident occurred about a quarter-mile south of the Carmel-Winterport exit.

Simpson said skid marks on the road lead police to believe the driver lost control, drifted to the left side of the road, overcorrected and went into the woods.

The trooper said it’s likely the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The driver was conscious and alert when police located him.

Simpson said the driver’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. He was brought to a local hospital for treatment.
