ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Florida man who allegedly broke into a local convenience store last week also is facing additional charges stemming from a prior criminal conviction, according to police.

James Eggleston, 34, listed by police as a transient, was summoned Wednesday on a charge of failure to comply with Maine’s sex offender registry requirements, the Ellsworth Police Department indicated in an incident report summary.

Eggleston remained held Thursday on $500 cash bail at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, where he has been since he was arrested over the weekend in connection with the break-in at a local business.

According to Ellsworth police, Eggleston broke into the Hilltop on the Run store on Route 3 and stole an undisclosed amount of items. The incident, in which Eggleston is accused of breaking in through the front door, occurred about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 27.

Eggleston is facing charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the break-in, according to police.
