PAXTON, Massachusetts — Maine Maritime Academy Academy amassed 490 yards on the ground while churning out a 42-12 football victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon.

Quarterback Michael Fahey carried 31 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns to spearhead the attack for the 1-0 Mariners. Jacob Doolan netted 97 yards on 11 attempts and scored once, while Joe DiBiase ran the ball 20 times for 86 yards and a TD.

MMA grabbed a 7-0 lead on Doolan’s 38-yard run late in the first quarter, then made it 14-zip when Keith Nelson recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Anna Maria countered when Chris Bettano’s 79-yard kickoff return set up his own 6-yard scoring run two plays later. The Mariners responded as Fahey peeled off a 30-yard run and then a 34-yard TD dash on the next two plays to put MMA on top 21-6.

Barely three minutes later, DiBiase extended the lead with a 3-yard run as the Mariners built a 27-12 halftime advance.

The visitors then scored twice in the third period, including a 10-yard halfback pass from DiBiase to Fahey, to put the game out of reach.

Greg McGoldrick completed 16 of 35 passes for 164 yards and a score to lead Anna Maria (0-2).

Johnny Weymouth spearheaded the MMA defense with nine tackles, while Michael Burgess had seven tackles, including 4 ½ for a loss, with two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Men’s Soccer

Tufts 1, Colby 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Rui Pinheiro one-timed a cross from Matt Zinner into the net with 4:47 to play, lifting the Jumbos to a NESCAC victory over the Mules.

Scott Greenwood made three saves for Tufts (4-0, 2-0 NESCAC).

Peter Quayle also made three saves for Colby (2-2, 0-2 NESCAC).

UM-Machias 2, SMCC 1

At South Portland on Saturday, Juan Solares scored with 5:55 remaining in the game to give UMaine-Machias the victory over Southern Maine Community College.

Sean Jackson’s goal 5:39 into the game gave SMCC the lead, but UMM tied it on Frank Zeba’s goal.

Spencer Hoyt made 14 saves for SMCC and Everett Senetar had four for UMM.

Husson 2, St. Joseph’s 0

At Standish on Sunday, the Eagles scored two early first-half goals to improve to 3-3 while the Monks dipped to 1-7.

Phil Frost scored the first goal off a Stephen Berenyi feed at the 11:20 mark and Josh Bean posted his first goal of the season two minutes later.

Husson outshot St. Joe’s 18-14 while Scott Benner made six saves in the first half and Hugh Palacios three in the second for St. Joe’s. Brian Potter finished with three saves for Husson.

Vermont Tech 1, Unity 0 (OT)

At Unity on Sunday, Raven Hudson scored in the 106th minute to lift Vermont Tech to the victory. It was Hudson’s first goal of the season.

Women’s Soccer

Tufts 3, Colby 1

At Waterville on Saturday, Alex Farris scored 2:17 into the contest to spark Tufts to a NESCAC win over Colby College.

Jess Capone and Maria Harvey-Brown scored a goal each for the Jumbos (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC). Carla Kruyff and Brooke Fortin added assists. Eileen McGarry was credited with six saves.

The Mules (1-2, 0-2 NESCAC) scored on an own goal. Emily Brook made 11 saves for Colby.

Thomas 13, Daniel Webster 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Bronte Howorth connected for three goals and assisted on two as the Terriers cruised to victory.

Kajsa Kaufelt scored two goals with an assist while Kristi Hilton and Grace Morris tallied two goals each. Kristina Emmons, Elizabeth McPhillips, Emily Dufour and Sara Moynihan contributed a goal apiece.

Paige Leary and Kira Buker combined for one save for Thomas.

Shannon Grigas made eight stops on 21 shots for Daniel Webster.

UM-Machias 3, SMCC 2

At South Portland on Saturday, Brooklynne Lewis scored three goals, including the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime, to lift the Clippers by Southern Maine Community College.

Lewis put UMM on the board first 5:54 into regulation, but SMCC tied it three minutes into the second half when Zyrah Giustra buried a ball in the back of the net off a pass from Danielle McCusker.

Lewis gave UMM the lead back with her second goal from a Madeline Aromando pass at 56 minutes before Katy Cyr tied it for the Seawolves at the 81:22 mark.

St. Joseph’s 2, Husson 0

At Standish on Sunday, Kim Jordan scored off a Sam Peters assist in the 67th minute and Peters followed with a goal 12 minutes later to give the Monks the win.

Anna Wolterbeek made nine saves on 11 shots for Husson (2-3) and Brooke Troup saved all five shots she faced for St. Joseph’s (3-4).

Unity 2, Vermont Tech 0

At Unity, Zoe Picanso scored in the game’s first three minutes and Ashley Moeller added another goal in the 57 minute to give Unity the victory.

Field Hockey

Harvard 2, Maine 1

At Burlington, Vermont, Marissa Belleza scored off an Ellie Cookson assist in the 39th minute on Saturday, lifting the Crimson to victory over the Black Bears in the Catamount Classic.

Hannah Wellington one-timed a shot from Ellie Cookson to notch a first-half goal for Harvard (3-0). Issy Davies made nine saves.

Danielle Aviani scored for the University of Maine (1-4), which outshot the Crimson 18-7 and had a 9-3 edge in penalty corners. Emma Cochran had one stop for the Black Bears.

Tufts 2, Colby 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Rachel Teveer and Dominique Zarrella scored second-half goals to carry the Jumbos to a NESCAC win.

Bri Keenan made one save to earn her third shutout of the season for Tufts (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC).

Sarah Evans made eight of her 12 stops in the second half for Colby (1-2, 0-2 NESCAC).

Kean 4, Thomas 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Marissa Robinson scored twice as Kean College shut out Thomas College.

Krista LaMaina and Teresa Carr notched a goal each for the winners. Katie DiCarlo made two saves.

Abby Charrier recorded five saves for the Terriers.

Wellesley 7, Husson 1

At Wellesley, Massachusetts, on Saturday, Hannah Flesch scored three goals to lead Wellesley by Husson of Bangor.

Wellesley (5-0) outshot Husson (2-4) 23-3 and had a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Melissa Souza scored a second-half goal for Husson on an assist from Taylor Lovley and Abby Greenleaf made seven saves.
