The Carpenters tribute concert
BREWER — The Brewer Performing Arts Center and Brewer Music Association will present “Closer to You”: A Live Tribute to The Carpenters featuring Grammy nominated vocalist Judy Pancoast at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the center, 92 Pendleton St.
Singer-songwriter Judy Pancoast was 11 years old when her older sister told her about a song she’d heard on the radio, and said that the girl singing it sounded “just like you.” That was the summer of 1970, and when Judy finally heard “(They Long to Be) Close to You” it was the beginning of a childhood adulation that would last well into her adult years. She spent her adolescent and teen years listening to the music of the brother and sister duo who called themselves The Carpenters, and became one of the charter members of their fan club at age 12.
Pancoast will be joined onstage by the Brewer High School Concert Choir under the direction of Heather MacLeod.
Judy Pancoast was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2011 for her best-selling children’s album, “Weird Things are Everywhere.” She may be heard 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays as the host of “The Wave at Work” on 93.7 The Wave of Bar Harbor.
Concert admission is $20. Tickets may be purchased at brewerperformingarts.com or by calling 200-5447.
