GRAY, Maine — An early Tuesday morning traffic stop in Gray for speeding escalated to a case of multiple charges against a Massachusetts woman, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Carla Barbosa, 36, of Boston was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and speeding after Deputy Matt Tufts allegedly searched her vehicle with a police dog following the traffic stop on Route 26 just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
“During the stop, Deputy Matt Tufts detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle,” read a Tuesday afternoon news release issued by Sheriff Kevin Joyce. “Deputy Tufts, who has a certified drug detection K-9, performed a search of the vehicle and found a usable amount of marijuana along with approximately 900 OxyContin pills packaged in small bags.”
Barbosa was transported to the Cumberland County Jail and held on $20,000 bail. She is due to appear in court on Wednesday, Joyce said.
