NORTH HAVEN, Maine — A 34-year-old North Haven man was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail after admitting he entered an island home and repeatedly punched a man in the house.
Morgan E. Mayo pleaded guilty in Knox County Superior Court to criminal trespass, assault and criminal mischief. Justice Daniel Billings sentenced Mayo to 364 days in jail with all but 60 days suspended, placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to pay $1,000 in restitution to the victim.
Mayo will not begin the sentence until Jan. 15 to allow him to continue lobstering. He must also undergo anger management counseling if directed by his probation officer.
A charge of burglary was dismissed and a charge of aggravated criminal trespass was reduced to criminal trespass.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Fernald said the victim entered a home where his ex-girlfriend was and punched a man in the home a number of times. Mayo also broke a television set, he said. The prosecutor said that Mayo claims he heard a woman screaming and that is why he went inside the home.
