PALMYRA, Maine — Maine State Police have identified the man who died in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on St. Albans Road.

Earl Hanson, 51, of St. Albans died at the scene, Maine State Police Lt. Mark Brooks said early Monday evening.

Brooks said the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m., when Hanson lost control of his vehicle, which struck a utility pole and then rolled over. Hanson, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected from the vehicle, Brooks said.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by Trooper George Neagle and Trooper Chris Carr. Brooks said the posted speed limit for the stretch of road on which the crash took place is 45 mph, and evidence at the scene suggests Hanson was traveling at a rate of speed above that.

Brooks said state police were assisted by the Hartland and St. Albans fire departments, Sebasticook Valley ambulance personnel and Shorey Nichols Funeral Home.
