PORTLAND, Maine — A Gardiner man pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court to robbing a Bridgton pharmacy on Thanksgiving Day.
Robert Richard, 26, was arrested Thursday morning. He was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury, according to information posted on the court’s electronic case filing system.
Richard is being held without bail pending a detention hearing expected to be held next week.
He was charged in connection with the robbery of Rite Aid on Portland Road about 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2013, by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, according to Portland television station WCSH 6. The robber handed the pharmacist a note demanding oxycodone.
According to the indictment, he either used or threatened force, violence and fear of immediate injury to obtain the drugs.
Richard allegedly fled the store but was seen getting into a silver car then headed toward Naples on Route 302, according to information posted on the Channel 6 website.
If convicted, Richard faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
