SIDNEY, Maine — A day care on Reynolds Hills Road was gutted by fire on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
The blaze sent firefighters from six communities to Jenn’s Daycare around noon, according to Sidney Fire Chief Richard Jandreau.
Jandreau said a candle on top of a bureau was the cause of the fire. The day care is attached to a single-story residence.
No children were inside the day care at the time of the fire, according to Jandreau. It took firefighters about three and a half hours to get the blaze under control
Firefighters from Sidney, Augusta, Oakland, Belgrade, Rome and Smithfield responded to the fire, Jendreau said.
The home and day care were insured, Jandreau said. The American Red Cross has been called in to render aid.
