Old trophies wanted

BANGOR — The Bangor High School speech and debate teams will host the 25th annual Debate and Speech Tournaments in late October and need help. A few years ago, to help lower the team budget for the school department, organizers started recycling old trophies. New plaques are ordered to put on the old trophies. The plaques are handed to the winners who then pick out their “new” trophy from our collection of trophies that have been sorted by size and cleaned up a bit. In the past, students have had a choice of skiing trophies, cheering trophies, basketball and running trophies, stock car racing, bowling and sharpshooting. Students from around the state compete for and win these trophies then bring a conversation piece home with them. If you have trophies to donate, email Joe Pelletier at jpelletier@bangorschools.net. If the trophies are in the Bangor area, arrangements can be made for immediate pickup or drop off. Arrangements also can be made to pick up old trophies beyond the Bangor area, but it may take awhile, Pelletier said.
