DURHAM, New Hampshire — Granite State authorities have released the name of a Wells woman struck and killed by a Downeaster train last week.

Durham police confirmed Monday that the victim has been identified as Brandi MacDonald, 22.

MacDonald’s death has been ruled a suicide. She apparently had been lying on the train tracks between Bennett Way and Mill Road in Durham on Sept. 24.

MacDonald was struck by a southbound train traveling from Brunswick to Boston. Her death marks the third time in nine weeks somebody has been killed by a Downeaster train.

The previous two incidents both occurred in North Berwick, the first on July 23 when a man stepped into a train’s path at the Route 9 crossing, while a second man walking on the tracks was killed on Sept. 20. Both incidents have also been ruled suicides.
