AUGUSTA, Maine — A Gardiner man injured in a motorcycle accident on Sunday in Lincoln County has died, police said Tuesday.

Kenneth Black, 50, died of his injuries on Monday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Black and his wife, Laurie Black, 47, were riding along Mills Road in Whitefield when the pair, who were riding on separate motorcycles, spotted a deer.

Neither Kenneth Black nor his wife were wearing helmets.

Laurie Black was able to maintain control of her bike as the deer darted into the path the motorcycles had taken to avoid hitting it, but Kenneth Black struck the animal before hitting his wife’s bike.

Police said charges are not anticipated in connection with the accident, which remains under investigation.
