PORTLAND, Maine — Independent candidate for governor Eliot Cutler will hold a community conversation regarding the closure of the Verso Paper mill at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at MacLeod’s Restaurant, 63 Main St., Bucksport.
Cutler will meet with workers and community members to hear their concerns and begin a conversation about how to use the area’s workers and other assets to create new jobs.
“This is a painful time not only for the workers and their families and the town of Bucksport, but also for people and businesses across the state who will feel the impacts of these closures,” said Cutler in a prepared statement.
He pointed out that more than 1,100 mill jobs have been lost in Millinocket, East Millinocket, Lincoln, Old Town and Bucksport. Saturday’s community conversation will be similar to the listening sessions he held in April and September in Millinocket around mill closures in the Katahdin region.
