BURLINGTON, Vt. — Holly Stewart scored two goals to power the Maine Black Bears to a 5-1 field hockey victory over the Vermont Catamounts Friday.
Stewart scored Maine’s first goal at the 31:29 mark of the first half off a Danielle Aviani assist and the Bears added four second-half goals.
Maine opened the second half with two straight goals, the first when Annabelle Hamilton converted a penalty stroke at 42nd minute and the second 10 minutes later when Marissa Shaw punched a rebound past Vermont goalie Lena Benwood.
Ashley McDonald responded with a goal for Vermont at 51:18, but Maine answered on goals by Stewart and Aviani.
Emma Cochran finished with three saves for Maine (4-6, 1-0 America East) and Benwood had five for Vermont (0-10, 0-1).

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Victoria Hummel scored off an Eve Boissonneault assist at the 1:11 mark of overtime to give Maine the victory.
Robert Morris scored first at 8:13 of the second period when Jessica Gazzola scored, with Mackenzie Johnston and Ashley Vesci assisting. Maine equalized at the 18:31 mark when Emilie Brigham scored. Boissonneault and Jessica Hall picked up assists.
Jennifer More gave Maine a 2-1 lead at 2:43 of the third with Brittney Huneke and Katy Massey collecting assists.
Maeve Garvey tied it for Robert Morris about five minutes later with Ashley Vesci recording the assist.
Maine is now 2-0 and Robert Morris is 0-3. Maine outshot Robert Morris 31-20.
