BANGOR — Fifty years wasn’t the only thing that Maine Distributors celebrated at the company’s gathering on Sept. 20. Bangor Mayor Ben Sprague presented the company with a proclamation recognizing the company’s achievement and contributions in the community, including jobs and service to more than 1,000 licensed retail locations across the region.
At the event, Scott Solman, president of Maine Distributors, announced two donations from the company to the Maine Troop Greeters and the Maine Infantry Foundation totaling $5,000.
“In a time when we are always looking to attract new businesses to the area, it’s also very important to recognize the contributions of the companies that are already here. Scott and his employees play an important role in the success of many local businesses and events in this community. I am honored to present this proclamation on behalf of the city council and the citizens of Bangor and thank Maine Distributors for being a great corporate and community partner,” said Sprague.
The event for company employees and their invited guests at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor included the unveiling of a video that celebrated the company’s major milestone and a raffle of more than $1,000 in gift certificates to local Maine businesses. In addition to recognizing their employees, Solman presented checks to two local community organizations.
Maine Distributors donated $2,500 to the Maine Infantry Foundation. The Maine Infantry Foundation is raising funds for the construction of a special room inside the Maine Army National Guard armory in Brewer. The armory is the home of Maine’s Infantry Company (B/3-172nd IN (MTN)). In conjunction with the Maine Military Museum, the room will house special historical artifacts relevant to the infantry in Maine. The room also will serve as a working memorial to those Maine Infantrymen who died in service to their country.
The second check for $2,500 was presented to the Maine Troop Greeters, a nonprofit group of veterans and men and women supporting the armed forces serving overseas by greeting troops who arrive at Bangor International Airport.
Currently, more than 100 employees work at Maine Distributors, in areas including administration, sales, marketing, promotions, warehouse and delivery. In addition to serving as an Anheuser-Busch distributor, the infrastructure and investments from the family-owned company have helped Maine Distributors provide valuable resources and efficiency for local craft brewers in Maine, according to a press release.
The company provides beverage products from its 100,000-square-foot warehouse in Bangor to retail locations in Penobscot, Aroostook, Hancock, Washington and Piscataquis counties. The company has also donated thousands of dollars to local charities, community organizations and local events during its 50 years.
The company is a member of the Maine Beer and Wine Distributors Association and National Beer Wholesalers Association. For information, visit mainebeerandwine.com/maine-distributors.
