WARREN, Maine — A Maine State Prison inmate who died on Tuesday morning at a Rockport hospital succumbed to natural causes, according to a state spokesperson.

Ronald Leslie Farrar, 65, of Waldo County was serving a 20-year sentence for gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact, according to Scott Fish, director of special projects for the Department of Corrections.

As is standard procedure when an inmate dies, state police and the Chief Medical Examiner were notified, Fish said. Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Farrar died of natural causes.

Farrar had served five years of his sentence at the time of his death, Fish said.

Farrar had been scheduled for release in September 2025.
